About

Welcome! My name is Alejandro Calderón-Urrea.  I'm a professor of Developmental Biology at California State University, Fresno. The purpose of this site is to introduce you to the activities in my research/teaching program at Fresno State. Feel free to send me an e-mail with comments and suggestions.

Projects

Our research projects focus around three main areas: 1) Novel alternatives for plant protection against nematodes using programmed cell death and chalcones; 2) the use of algae for biofuel secondary metabolite production and waste-water treatment; and 3) development of molecular diagnostic tools for use in food and agriculture.

Teaching

I teach Biology 155 (Developmental Biology), Biology 156 (Plant Growth and Development), Biology 1A (introductory Biology – for majors), Biology 103 (Cell Biology), Biology 104 (Laboratory for Genetics and Cell Biology) and other courses to strengthen the developmental and molecular biology sections of our Biology curriculum.
